Beatles Jazz Connection
Featuring Christian Foley-Beining on guitar, Tom Shader on bass, Jeff Sanford on Saxaphone and Kendrick Freeman on drums "The Beatles Jazz Connection" performs arrangements of Beatles songs in styles ranging from Blues and Rock, Fusion, Funk, Brazilian music and of course, Jazz.
Tickets are $25 advance, $15 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door. No ticket fees for this event. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Refreshments for sale.
About the show:
Foley-Beining explains, “I look at the music of the Beatles from two different perspectives. The first is what we all in our age group experienced when we grew up, we just liked the songs and were taken away with their great music. Second, now after studying Jazz for decades, composing original music and arranging many different types of music, I was again amazed by their talents and compositions. The songs seem to be very simple, and you just sing a long, but when you analyze the structures and harmonies, you realize how deep the musicality was. The musical transformation they went through in 7 - 8 years is just amazing. Many other rock bands still sound the same for 40 years. When I arrange a Beatles song, I just arrange it in a way that pleases me, I don't care what style of music it ends up to be. I am integrating all my musical experiences in my arrangements from my beginning as a Blue/Rock player, my interest in Fusion and Funk and then of course my decades of studying and performing Jazz and Brazilian music.”

"This absorbing biography, written with both affection and admiration, shows Babb as one of the most indefatigable characters in American literary history."—The New Republic
This saga of a writer done dirty resurrects the silenced voice of Sanora Babb, peerless author of midcentury American literature.
In 1939, when John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath was published, it became an instant bestseller and a prevailing narrative in the nation's collective imagination of the era. But it also stopped the publication of another important novel, silencing a gifted writer who was more intimately connected to the true experiences of Dust Bowl migrants. In Riding Like the Wind, renowned biographer Iris Jamahl Dunkle revives the groundbreaking voice of Sanora Babb.
Dunkle follows Babb from her impoverished childhood in eastern Colorado to California. There, she befriended the era's literati, including Ray Bradbury and Ralph Ellison; entered into an illegal marriage; and was blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee. It was Babb's field notes and oral histories of migrant farmworkers that Steinbeck relied on to write his novel. But this is not merely a saga of literary usurping; on her own merits, Babb's impact was profound. Her life and work feature heavily in Ken Burns's award-winning documentary The Dust Bowl and inspired Kristin Hannah in her bestseller The Four Winds. Riding Like the Wind reminds us with fresh awareness that the stories we know—and who tells them—can change the way we remember history.
Iris Jamahl Dunkle's poetry and nonfiction critically engage with the Western myth of progress by exploring the profound impact of agriculture and overpopulation on the North American West, both historically and in contemporary times. Embracing an ecofeminist perspective, her writing challenges the predominantly male-centric narrative of the American West's recorded history, delving into the often-overlooked lives of women.
Dunkle earned her MFA in poetry from New York University and her PhD in American Literature from Case Western Reserve University. She is the author of two biographies, Charmian Kittredge London: Trailblazer, Author, Adventurer (University of Oklahoma Press, 2020) and Riding Like the Wind: The Life of Sanora Babb (University of California Press, 2024), and four collections of poetry, including West : Fire : Archive, published by The Center for Literary Publishing, Interrupted Geographies and Gold Passage by Trio House Press and There’s a Ghost in This Machine of Air by Word Tech.
Dunkle curates Finding Lost Voices, a weekly blog dedicated to resurrecting the voices of women who have been marginalized or forgotten. She has garnered recognition through awards and fellowships from esteemed institutions such as Biographers International, Millay Arts, and Vermont Studio Center, and her writing has appeared in publications like Orion, Electric Lit, Liber, Pleiades, Tin House, Calyx, Fence, The Los Angeles Review, and Split Rock Review. Notably, her work was featured on The Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series and showcased on one hundred buses during the Muni Art 2020 campaign.

Readers Theatre participants read scripts adapted from literature, while the ‘audience’ pictures the action by hearing the script being read aloud. Instead of acting literature as in a play, the performer’s goal is to read a script aloud effectively, enabling the audience to visualize the action. Performers bring the text alive by using voice, facial expressions, and some gestures. $15 participation fee, $10 for OCA members.

Sound Bath with Laura Benson
Rest & Renew at our Sound Bath!
Support your nervous system, release anxiety and stress, and harmonize your body, mind and spirit on the 2nd Tuesday of every month! Laura Benson has a Masters in Intuition Medicine(R) and is a certified sound healer who will guide you through a gentle meditation before each sound bath session. Bring your own yoga mat & blanket and come ready to rest and renew! In the OCA Studio.
Sliding scale pricing $25-$35.
A sound bath is a whole-body, immersive listening experience. During a sound bath, participants often sit or lie down, and are surrounded by the mostly non-melodic soundscapes created by a range of instruments played by the sound bath facilitator. Hence, they are “bathed” in sound.
Sound therapy is a non-invasive healing modality that utilizes the physical and physiological interactions of sound on our bodies and nervous systems to produce therapeutic results. In a sound healing session, specific sonic frequencies are used to soothe the central nervous system, calm the breath, and quiet the mind by encouraging the brain to move into more relaxed states, down from beta (fight-or-flight) and into theta and alpha waves. This increases present-moment awareness and reduces stress and anxiety. Sound baths have been found to be effective in improving mood, cognitive function, and overall mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
Crystal bowl sound baths are particularly powerful in that each bowl is tuned to a specific frequency that corresponds with a different chakra, or energy center, of the body. Based on specific needs, a practitioner can focus on releasing tension or clearing out stuck energy in specific chakras by playing certain bowls or intervals.
While attending a sound bath, you may experience physical sensations brought out by the crystal sound bowls or gong, such as tingling in your limbs or scalp, slowing of your breathing, eye flutters, or small muscle spasms. Not to worry! These sensations often indicate the release of tension or emotional energy stored in the body’s energy systems.

Duo Quartet
OCA is pleased to present Duo Quartet!
This afternoon concert will take place inside our auditorium.
Duo Quartet is Chris Webster, Nina Gerber, Pam Delgado & Jeri Jones, who discovered their magical, musical synergy during a double-bill show of the two "duos".
From an audience point of view there is something richly satisfying in experiencing these four women onstage with a dynamic ranging from tender, ethereal songs to raucous barn-burners. Webster and Delgado sing most of the leads – Chris often expertly playing a washboard while Delgado drives the band with her percussion. But if this were a boxing ring you’d see coming in from opposite corners the dueling energy of Jones and Gerber egging each other on with their guitar-Goddestry – whipping the band and the audience into a veritable frenzy.
With a beautiful set of original music mixed with surprisingly original takes on a few choice covers, Duo Quartet brings to the stage a band that is greater than the sum of its already impressive parts.
Tickets are $35 Advance, $40 at the door (if available). No online fees for this event. $10 off for OCA members.
About the performers:
Nina Gerber & Chris Webster
Nina Gerber & Chris Webster haven’t rushed into this album thing—it’s only after 25 years of playing together that they’ve released an album of gorgeous duets, Apple Blossom Lane, featuring Chris’s bluesy, jazzy, soulful voice and Nina’s incomparable guitar accompaniment, always surprising, yet always so exactly right. They take their time with each song, playing with possibilities, exploring depths, arriving at moments of rare beauty and transcendence. If you’ve ever heard Nina before, you know she always brings out the best in the musicians around her, and Chris’s best is spectacularly good—her “magic derives from those ineffable qualities of vocal grain, emotional nuance, timing, and phrasing possessed by the truly great and moving singers of any style,” says the Oakland Tribune.
Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones
Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones of Blame Sally fame return to their original duo format, the Pam & Jeri Show, in a performance ranging from mournful ballads to sweet love songs to blazing acoustic soul. Pam plays percussion and guitar, Jeri plays guitar, bass, dobro, and mandolin, and their powerful voices blend beautifully to create a distinct and compelling sound. Their music has earned a spot in the rotation on San Francisco’s KFOG and Starbucks XM Café. Whether they’re covering songs by artists like Aretha Franklin and Rickie Lee Jones or playing their own exciting originals, this is a duo that knows how to entertain an audience and put on a satisfying show.

Their work together includes Bang Bang Uber Alles, a full-length stage musical/documentary opera whose sold-out Atlanta production in 1985 garnered the attention of the community, the press and the Ku Klux Klan. Adrienne’s recordings include two solo albums of original compositions for piano and synthesizers, Brooklyn From the Roof and Two Hands Open, both recognized as “best of” in the year of their release, and June Jordan and Adrienne Torf Collaboration: Selected Works, 1983-2000. John Reischman and the Jaybirds
Like the powerful mandolinist and composer at its helm, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned, sophisticated and stripped-down, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary.
Don't miss this opportunity to see The Jaybids when they visit Northern California! Tickets are $35 advance, $25 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door (if available). This event is likely to sell out - get tickets early! Ticket fees waived for this event.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. OCA members may reserve seats. Fine refreshments, beer and wine for sale. Art gallery open during intermission.
About the performers:
Bluegrass Unlimited calls John Reischman “one of the world’s undisputed masters” of the mandolin, famed for outstanding tone and taste. Many of his dozens of original instrumentals have become popular favourites for sessions and covers, such as the jam standard Saltspring. He has three critically-acclaimed solo instrumental albums and has recorded on many other projects, including the Grammy-winning True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe. John also plays Latin-based jazz and choro music with highly regarded finger-style acoustic guitarist/composer John Miller; the duo has released three superb albums.
John began his career in the San Francisco Bay area in the early ’80s with the eclectic Good Ol’ Persons bluegrass band. He was an original member of the legendary “new acoustic” quartet, the jazz-influenced Tony Rice Unit, renowned for highly skilled instrumentals. John moved to Vancouver in the early ’90s and in 1999 formed the Jaybirds. Of their latest album, Folk Radio UK said “On That Other Green Shore showcases an accomplished, experienced band at the peak of their powers, with musicianship of the very highest order.” Peghead Nation called it “one of the most beguiling bluegrass-rooted recordings of 2017.”
Los Angeles, CA-based guitarist Patrick Sauber joined the Jaybirds in 2017. The veteran performer has played with, among others, Doc Watson, Richard Greene, John Jorgensen, Peter Rowan, Tim O’Brien and John Fogerty. He played on the 2016 Grammy-nominated album The Hazel and Alice Sessions by Laurie Lewis, and appeared in the film A Mighty Wind with Christopher Guest. Bluegrass Unlimited describes Patrick’s playing on John’s tune Daylighting the Creek as “a glorious flatpicking solo that hews back to the glory days of early bluegrass guitar.”
Chilliwack, BC-based Trisha Gagnon is portrayed by Sing Out! as “one of the most versatile” and “irresistible” lead vocalists in bluegrass, her strong and distinctive style ranging from “mournful and plaintive” to “hopeful and yearning.” Trisha anchors what Dirty Linen magazine calls “gorgeous three-part harmonies.” She’s also known for songwriting, dating back to her early days with the award-winning B.C. bluegrass band Tumbleweed. Her solo album includes guests Vince Gill and Peter Rowan.
Nanaimo, BC-based Nick Hornbuckle has developed his own voice on the five-string banjo – a two-finger roll unlike other contemporary banjo players. “Nick Hornbuckle’s banjo can be downright spine-tingling,” said the L.A Daily News. His solo album 12×2 (+/-1), was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2015, and Nick is a composer who also digs for rare old-time gems. His sprightly instrumental Wellesley Station on the new Jaybird album “showcases Nick’s sharp picking and sense of melody,” said Green Man Review.
Spokane, WA-based Greg Spatz is hailed as a “world-class bluegrass fiddler” by Fiddler Magazine. Book Launch: Samantha Rose Swartz “Giving Up The Ghost”
Please join us for selected readings, author Q&A, book sales and signing. FREE event.
In Samantha’s Rose Swartz’ newest book, Giving Up the Ghost, A Daughter’s Memoir, what begins as a solitary journey of grief shifts form when her mother slips back from the darkness beyond to reconcile her irreversible choice. Raw, deeply revealing, and with resilient humor throughout, Giving Up the Ghost explores the layered complexity of mental health, the love between mothers and daughters, and how, in the aftermath of inconceivable loss, we can release our inner ghosts and write a new story for ourselves.
Susan Swartz was part of a large circle of friends and neighbors in Sebastopol and West County, was a well-known local journalist, book author, and beloved by many for her warmth, wit, and insatiable curiosity. Her Sunday pieces in the Press Democrat about Sonoma County were very popular and read by many. She became a columnist for the paper and also read on-air commentaries for KRCB public radio.
Samantha grew up in Sebastopol with her two stepsisters, her mother and stepfather Bob Klose, also a reporter for the Press Democrat. Klose died on Nov. 21, 2019, after a long fight with cancer, and Swartz took her own life not three months later when she jumped from a tall cliff at Bodega Head on Feb. 25, 2020. She was 76. Her dramatic suicide stunned our community, and the finality of her story has never been told until now.
Samantha Rose is an Emmy-award winning television writer, author and a New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling ghostwriter who collaborates with people to put their thoughts, ideas and life experiences into writing. She never thought that one day she might write a book about conversations with a ghost, and that the subject would be her mother. The mother-daughter conversations are the heart of the book. “I did write this book for myself,” Rose admits. “But I also wrote it for her. I felt my mom still had more things to say and for all of us to talk about.”
In her interview with Rollie Atkinson for The Sebastopol Times, Rose said she hopes readers will remember her mother and appreciate all of her complexities and enthusiasm and joy she brought to all her conversations and writings. “I also hope people will have conversations about mental health and maybe have conversations with each other that my mother and I didn’t get to have.”
Selected readings by the author, followed by on-stage conversation with fellow writer and close family friend, Miriam Silver, Q& A, book sales & signing. Free admission, donations gratefully accepted. Refreshments available for sale.

What they are saying about Giving Up the Ghost
“Heartbreaking, raw, honest, and inspiring… Samantha Rose takes us on a compelling journey as she bravely navigates her way through grief’s darkness, serving as a powerful reminder that love never dies and we are never truly alone.”
—Rebecca Rosen, author of the national and international bestseller, Spirited
“Samantha Rose’s mastery of words is a gift—Giving Up the Ghost is an intimate, unfiltered, heart wrenching and, at times, hilarious account of a family story forever changed by suicide. In these confusing and increasingly lonely times for us all, Rose’s memoir is a must read for anyone coping with grief and surviving loss.”
—Eve Rodsky, author of the New York Times bestseller and Reese’s Book Club pick, Fair Play
“A beautifully written and piercing reflection on grief, the bonds between mothers and daughters and the importance of finding your own voice. Rose’s journey of resilience inspires us to dig deep for the answers that will set us free and that have the power to ripple outward and offer hope and healing to us all.”
—Cathy Heller, podcast host and author of Abundant Ever After
"Giving Up the Ghost is a beautiful memoir of a daughter's journey to attempt to process and eventually try to understand suicide, loss and grief. Incredibly gripping and moving, Rose takes the reader on her journey with honesty and vulnerability. For anyone who has ever felt alone in their grief, this book will provide you with connection, comfort and eventually hope."
-Sheryl Ziegler, PsyD, bestselling author of Mommy Burnout and The Crucial Years
“I devoured this memoir like the serving of spaghetti Samantha Rose uses to compare grief in my favorite passage, in which she describes sucking on the noodle of sadness and winding her fork around confusion before coming back to the meatball of anger. Giving Up the Ghost is a hearty, surprising, and, at times, delightful read. I found nourishment I didn’t know I needed within its pages—and I trust many other readers will feel the same.”—Courtney Cook, Author of The Way She Feels: My Life on the Borderline in Pictures and Pieces
"Every memoir is, for better or worse, a measure of the author's courage. In Giving Up the Ghost, Samantha Rose shoulders emotional freight with extraordinary valor, grace, and sure-handed storytelling. This achingly honest account of a complicated grieving process is sure to stir raw emotion and vibrant book club discussions."
– Joni Rodgers, New York Times bestselling author/ghostwriter
“Rose’s searingly honest memoir is both heart-wrenching and profoundly heartfelt. With raw vulnerability, she explores the intricate bonds between mothers and daughters—the stories we inherit, the lengths we go to protect, and the deep wounds left by what remains unspoken. In the aftermath of her mother’s suicide, Rose bravely searches for meaning. Through her journey with her therapeutic guide, B, she illuminates the quiet alchemy of healing—it is when we feel seen, known, and safe, that we can bend without breaking, gather our fractured pieces, reclaim our strength, and step fully into life.”

West County Tune Workshop
West County Tune Workshop
(every 3rd Tuesday from 7-9 PM)
In this 2-hour workshop, we'll dive into a new fiddle tune every month. American traditional fiddle music is vast, with deep Celtic roots and a fascinating multi-cultural history that gave birth to old-time music, and later to bluegrass. Each month, we'll work on a new tune from one of these three genres. After learning the basic melody, we'll explore the nuances that make each tune & style come alive.
All stringed instruments and levels are welcome, but students should be comfortable enough on their instruments that they can learn bite-sized phrases of a melody by ear.
David Pascoe is a singer and multi-instrumentalist based in Occidental, CA. In addition to being a passionate music educator and the co-founder of Every Folk (a 3-day camp for adults to explore traditional music and culture), he performs with multiple groups up and down the West Coast on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. He lives for the moment when music comes alive in the people around him.
Workshop fee is $25, $20 for OCA members.

Patrick Ball: Celtic Harp & Story
Patrick Ball - Celtic Harp & Story
Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. He has recorded nine instrumental and five spoken word albums which have sold well over one-half million copies internationally and won national awards in both the music and spoken word categories.
In “Celtic Harp and Story” Patrick rekindles the fire and wonder of an evening of Irish storytelling. In telling the marvelous old tales of wit and enchantment, and in playing the ancient, brass-strung harp of Ireland, he not only carries on two of the richest traditions of Celtic culture, but blends them in concert to create “a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.”
Irish Storytelling & Music
Whether in the stronghold of a Galway chieftain in the years before history began or yesterday in the snug corner of a pub in Dublin, the Irish have always delighted in storytelling. Their passion for eloquence and wordplay, their deep devotion to their mythical past, their ability to find joy and humor in a dark world, and their belief that the supernatural world could appear between one breath and the next made their stories and the telling of them unrivaled in the world of the oral tradition.
And always, amidst the storytelling, there was music. Jigs, reels and haunting airs graced the spaces between the tales. And first among Irish instruments, and the most honored, was the legendary Clairseach, the brass-strung Celtic harp. With its crystalline, bell-like voice and lavish resonance, it would soothe its listeners and lead them deeper into the realms of the imagination.
“An American master of the Irish instrument, a peripatetic modern day bard, combining tale-telling, history and music into a seamless compound that reaches all ages and types of listeners.”
- San Francisco Chronicle
“Patrick Ball conjured some Druid magic ... weaving words and music into a spellbinding program.”
- The Blade, Toledo, OH
OCA is thrilled to welcome back Patrick Ball - Don't miss your chance to see this show! Tickets are $35 GA advance, $28 for OCA members. $5 more at the door (if available). This event is likely to sell out.
Doors open at 6:30 PM, beer/wine/refreshments available. OCA is wheelchair accessible. Art gallery open during intermission.
Patrick’s Bio
Patrick Ball was born and raised in California and gave little thought to such things as where his ancestors came from. He went to school and supposed, when he thought about it at all, that he would one day be a lawyer like his father. But he studied music from time to time and over the years developed a nodding acquaintance with the piano and the guitar. At university he continued his flirtatious relationship with music by playing the tin whistle, principally to annoy his roommate. But at this time he found that he was irresistibly drawn to words, to the music of words, to writers who made words sing, to writers from Ireland. When he began to study history to fulfill his academic requirements, he was not surprised to find that it was the lyrical, turbulent history of Ireland that engaged him. So much so, in fact, that when his father died, all his thoughts of law school died with him. He enrolled in graduate school and soon made his way to Ireland. There he fell in love with the eloquence and fire of the Irish oral tradition. There he fell in love with the Celtic harp. And there a few pieces of his life fell into place. For he came to know that marvelous unity of Irish words, music and history that would become his passion and, eventually, his livelihood.
Patrick returned to California, was awarded a Master’s Degree in History by Dominican College, and soon discovered that jobs in the field of Irish scholarship were not to be had for love nor money. After laboring in various lines of work he set off hitchhiking around the country and finally fetched up at Penland School of Crafts in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where he lived for two years and worked as a groundsman. There he encountered a branch of that living oral tradition that had captivated him in Ireland. And there for him, among the Appalachian storytellers, his love of the spoken word was rekindled. He returned to Ireland for a time, then made his way back to California, determined to put his scholarship, his love of words and his neglected musicianship to some use, to carve out for himself an occupation from the things that he loved. He sought out a maker of the rare wire-strung Celtic harp and taught himself to play. He then gathered the stories he had heard and the history he had learned and blended them with the music that had so often been their companion.
Patrick now lives in The Burren in County Clare, Ireland with his wife and 2 dogs.

Natalie Cressman & Ian Faquini
Trombonist and singer/songwriter Natalie Cressman and composer, guitarist, and singer Ian Faquini have created a uniquely intimate duo collaboration, drawing from impressionism, jazz, and the great Brazilian songwriting tradition. Their original material features songs in three different languages and encompasses a vast spectrum of musical ground. With the warm instrumentation of acoustic guitar and trombone and two-partvocal harmonies hugging the Brazilian-accented Portuguese, Cressman & Faquini weave their musical voices together to create a fully orchestrated sound befitting a much larger ensemble.
The duo has released two albums together and is steadily gaining recognition for their distinctive sound, including a finalist nomination for “Duo of The Year” by the JazzJournalists Association in 2023. Setting Rays of Summer (2019) and Auburn Whisper(2022) both received critical praise and topped many “best of” lists in their respective years. Together Cressman and Faquini have played their music across the US in venues ranging from intimate house concerts to performing arts halls and jazz festival stages such as the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Jazz Aspen Snow mass, and have performed internationally in Brazil, Japan, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. We're thrilled to have this talented duo return to OCA for an afternoon concert!

The musical lineup also features button accordion virtuoso, Félim Egan and keyboardist, Eamonn Flynn . At their concerts one can expect to hear Irish traditional ballads, Dublin street songs, music hall ditties, contemporary folk compositions, rollicking reels & joyful jigs, all interspersed with comic stories, jokes & humorous childhood anecdotes that invariably have audiences smiling broadly & joining in on the choruses. Readers' Theatre
Interested in learning, sharing and reading short plays? Readers Theatre is a fun opportunity to express yourself.
Readers Theatre participants read scripts adapted from literature, while the ‘audience’ pictures the action by hearing the script being read aloud. It requires no sets, costumes, props, or memorized lines. Instead of acting literature as in a play, the performer’s goal is to read a script aloud effectively, enabling the audience to visualize the action. Performers bring the text alive by using voice, facial expressions, and some gestures. $15 participation fee, $10 for OCA members.

Johnny & June Forever
Get ready for the greatest love story ever sung!
This five-star tribute to Johnny and June Cash will amaze you, with the multi-talented performers Essence Goldman and Danny Evans leading an impressive ensemble of musicians that recreate this unique couple’s greatest hits.
From his #1 hit “I Walk the Line” in 1956 to the iconic “Folsom Prison Blues,” many have known and loved Johnny Cash over the years. No love, though, seems as great as the love that singer/songwriter June Carter had for Cash during their long years together. Though they have passed on, the passion that burned between them will always be present in their heartfelt and truthful lyrics written and performed for one another. As one of the most beloved couples in music history, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s love lives on through their iconic duos and many albums recorded with each other.
Danny Evans and Essence Goldman’s chemistry and musicality on stage is so undeniable that many have described them as the reincarnation of Johnny & June.
Don’t miss this impressive performance coming to Occidental!
Advance tickets are $25 GA, $15 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

PHIL BILLY, Electric Guitar & Vocals
Guitarist, singer, producer and engineer Phillip “Philbillie” Milner has been in the Bay Area music scene for the better part of 35 years. Landing in San Francisco in the early 90’s after slugging it out in the club scenes of Southern California and Maui, followed by, of all things, a stint in the US Navy in the Advanced Electronics field.
A versatile guitarist and dynamic singer, Philbillie has lent those talents to a number of bands and solo artists both on stage and as a producer/engineer/mixer at Okey Doke Studios, a private residential facility maintained with his long-time partner, singer/songwriter Jenny Kerr. There he produced numerous releases for Eric McFadden, Darren Nelson (San Geronimo), Jenny Kerr and others.
A verified road dog, Phil has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. In his capacity as a guitar tech, he’s done his time “on the bus” with the likes of Bob Weir & Ratdog, Bonnie Raitt, Tracy Chapman, Wilco, Graham Nash and plenty more.
Now settled in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Philbillie is busy playing guitar and making records with local, national and international artists.
JOE KYLE JR. - Standup Bass
Joe cut his musical teeth in the early 1990s in San Francisco, when entry-level gigs were plentiful and taxicabs were large enough to accommodate a double bass. His musical education began in the trenches and the barrooms and dance halls of the Greater Bay Area, and continues to this day.
Joe has become an in-demand performer and session player known throughout the land for his superb feel, musical agility, adaptability and propensity for slap bass and tragicomic asides. He may be the only bassist to have played with pianists Martin Denny, Al Kooper, AND Pinetop Perkins, although not with all on the same session, sadly.
Joe can frequently be seen and heard performing and recording with many Bay Area groups, including Michael Zisman's Americano Social Club, HowellDevine, the Colm ORiain Band, Koolerator, The Cottontails, The Lucky Losers and The Waybacks.

Bring your own yoga mat & blanket and come ready to rest and renew! In the OCA Studio.
