Johnny & June Forever

Get ready for the greatest love story ever sung!

This five-star tribute to Johnny and June Cash will amaze you, with the multi-talented performers Essence Goldman and Danny Evans leading an impressive ensemble of musicians that recreate this unique couple’s greatest hits.

From his #1 hit “I Walk the Line” in 1956 to the iconic “Folsom Prison Blues,” many have known and loved Johnny Cash over the years. No love, though, seems as great as the love that singer/songwriter June Carter had for Cash during their long years together. Though they have passed on, the passion that burned between them will always be present in their heartfelt and truthful lyrics written and performed for one another. As one of the most beloved couples in music history, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s love lives on through their iconic duos and many albums recorded with each other.

Danny Evans and Essence Goldman’s chemistry and musicality on stage is so undeniable that many have described them as the reincarnation of Johnny & June.

Don’t miss this impressive performance coming to Occidental!

Advance tickets are $30 GA, $20 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door. Doors open at 6:30 PM.

No fees to purchase in advance. Get your tickets today!

DANNY EVANS is widely recognized as a premier guitarist, an unparalleled singer/songwriter and producer. As the son of Rusty Evans, whose own Johnny Cash tribute “Ring Of Fire” that reigned supreme on the national circuit for over 20 years Danny played lead guitar and served as musical director in the family band, as well as bearing his own musical soul with his band Chrome Johnson.

Known as a “musical chameleon”, Danny is well regarded as being accomplished in almost any style. Danny’s storied career has seen him sharing high profile stages from Glastonbury to Bumbershoot. With live performances with many legends and such as Link Wray, Dick Dale, Taj Mahal, Chris Robinson, Bill Kirtchen, Leo Nocentelli, Roy Rogers, Count Basie Orchestra, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Crystal Gayle, Porter Wagoner etc. under his belt, his production and recording credits are just as bountiful. Well known as a “go to” guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, Danny’s musical talents are well regarded and always in demand.

ESSENCE GOLDMAN, an award winning singer-songwriter has been immersed in art and music since childhood. Her birth name really is ‘essence’ – she was raised by quintessential flower children, her parents being two free spirited bohemian artists from the Haight-Ashbury ‘Summer of Love.’  essence has released 6 CDs (with a 7th on the way!) on both independent and major labels, and toured nationally opening for Jason Mraz, Shawn Colvin, Tom Petty, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Chrissie Hynde, Steve Miller, Pat Benatar, and Linda Perry. Her sound nods to songwriting legends like Tom Petty and Lucinda Williams, Dolly Parton, and Gillian Welch.  Essence recently received a national and international spotlights for her work with Bernie and the Believers through NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series and BBC. The story and music of her band Bernie and the Believers is currently being developed into a major Hollywood feature film.

PHIL BILLY, Electric Guitar & Vocals

Guitarist, singer, producer and engineer Phillip “Philbillie” Milner has been in the Bay Area music scene for the better part of 35 years. Landing in San Francisco in the early 90’s after slugging it out in the club scenes of Southern California and Maui, followed by, of all things, a stint in the US Navy in the Advanced Electronics field.

A versatile guitarist and dynamic singer, Philbillie has lent those talents to a number of bands and solo artists both on stage and as a producer/engineer/mixer at Okey Doke Studios, a private residential facility maintained with his long-time partner, singer/songwriter Jenny Kerr. There he produced numerous releases for Eric McFadden, Darren Nelson (San Geronimo), Jenny Kerr and others.

A verified road dog, Phil has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. In his capacity as a guitar tech, he’s done his time “on the bus” with the likes of Bob Weir & Ratdog, Bonnie Raitt, Tracy Chapman, Wilco, Graham Nash and plenty more.

Now settled in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Philbillie is busy playing guitar and making records with local, national and international artists.

JOE KYLE JR. - Standup Bass

Joe cut his musical teeth in the early 1990s in San Francisco, when entry-level gigs were plentiful and taxicabs were large enough to accommodate a double bass.  His musical education began in the trenches and the barrooms and dance halls of the Greater Bay Area, and continues to this day.

Joe has become an in-demand performer and session player known throughout the land for his superb feel, musical agility, adaptability and propensity for slap bass and tragicomic asides.  He may be the only bassist to have played with pianists Martin Denny, Al Kooper, AND Pinetop Perkins, although not with all on the same session, sadly.

Joe can frequently be seen and heard performing and recording with many Bay Area groups, including Michael Zisman's Americano Social Club, HowellDevine, the Colm ORiain Band, Koolerator, The Cottontails,  The Lucky Losers and The Waybacks.

Chris Lockheed - Drums

Chris has been a studio musician for years. Played, toured with NRPS, THE TUBES, LIGHTNIN’ HOPKINS, VAN MORRISON, BLUE CHEER and others. National tours with Rusty Evans & Ring Of Fire, #1 Johnny Cash tribute. Arizona Musicians Hall Of Fame with Goose Creek Symphony, Capitol Records.

Patrick Ball: Celtic Harp & Story

Patrick Ball: Celtic Harp & Story

Patrick Ball - Celtic Harp & Story

Patrick Ball is one of the premier Celtic harp players in the world and a captivating spoken word artist. He has recorded nine instrumental and five spoken word albums which have sold well over one-half million copies internationally and won national awards in both the music and spoken word categories.

In “Celtic Harp and Story” Patrick rekindles the fire and wonder of an evening of Irish storytelling. In telling the marvelous old tales of wit and enchantment, and in playing the ancient, brass-strung harp of Ireland, he not only carries on two of the richest traditions of Celtic culture, but blends them in concert to create “a richly theatrical and hauntingly beautiful performance.”

Irish Storytelling & Music

Whether in the stronghold of a Galway chieftain in the years before history began or yesterday in the snug corner of a pub in Dublin, the Irish have always delighted in storytelling. Their passion for eloquence and wordplay, their deep devotion to their mythical past, their ability to find joy and humor in a dark world, and their belief that the supernatural world could appear between one breath and the next made their stories and the telling of them unrivaled in the world of the oral tradition.

And always, amidst the storytelling, there was music. Jigs, reels and haunting airs graced the spaces between the tales. And first among Irish instruments, and the most honored, was the legendary Clairseach, the brass-strung Celtic harp. With its crystalline, bell-like voice and lavish resonance, it would soothe its listeners and lead them deeper into the realms of the imagination.

“An American master of the Irish instrument, a peripatetic modern day bard, combining tale-telling, history and music into a seamless compound that reaches all ages and types of listeners.”

- San Francisco Chronicle

“Patrick Ball conjured some Druid magic ... weaving words and music into a spellbinding program.”

- The Blade, Toledo, OH

OCA is thrilled to welcome back Patrick Ball - Don't miss your chance to see this show! Tickets are $35 GA advance, $28 for OCA members. $5 more at the door (if available). This event is likely to sell out.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, beer/wine/refreshments available. OCA is wheelchair accessible. Art gallery open during intermission.

Patrick’s Bio

Patrick Ball was born and raised in California and gave little thought to such things as where his ancestors came from. He went to school and supposed, when he thought about it at all, that he would one day be a lawyer like his father. But he studied music from time to time and over the years developed a nodding acquaintance with the piano and the guitar. At university he continued his flirtatious relationship with music by playing the tin whistle, principally to annoy his roommate. But at this time he found that he was irresistibly drawn to words, to the music of words, to writers who made words sing, to writers from Ireland. When he began to study history to fulfill his academic requirements, he was not surprised to find that it was the lyrical, turbulent history of Ireland that engaged him. So much so, in fact, that when his father died, all his thoughts of law school died with him. He enrolled in graduate school and soon made his way to Ireland. There he fell in love with the eloquence and fire of the Irish oral tradition. There he fell in love with the Celtic harp. And there a few pieces of his life fell into place. For he came to know that marvelous unity of Irish words, music and history that would become his passion and, eventually, his livelihood.

Patrick returned to California, was awarded a Master’s Degree in History by Dominican College, and soon discovered that jobs in the field of Irish scholarship were not to be had for love nor money. After laboring in various lines of work he set off hitchhiking around the country and finally fetched up at Penland School of Crafts in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where he lived for two years and worked as a groundsman. There he encountered a branch of that living oral tradition that had captivated him in Ireland. And there for him, among the Appalachian storytellers, his love of the spoken word was rekindled. He returned to Ireland for a time, then made his way back to California, determined to put his scholarship, his love of words and his neglected musicianship to some use, to carve out for himself an occupation from the things that he loved. He sought out a maker of the rare wire-strung Celtic harp and taught himself to play. He then gathered the stories he had heard and the history he had learned and blended them with the music that had so often been their companion.

Patrick now lives in The Burren in County Clare, Ireland with his wife and 2 dogs.

Beatles Jazz Connection

Beatles Jazz Connection

Featuring Christian Foley-Beining on guitar, Tom Shader on bass, and Kendrick Freeman on drums "The Beatles Jazz Connection" performs arrangements of Beatles songs in styles ranging from Blues and Rock, Fusion, Funk, Brazilian music and of course, Jazz.

Tickets are $25 advance, $15 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door. No ticket fees for this event. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Refreshments for sale.

About the show:

Foley-Beining explains, “I look at the music of the Beatles from two different perspectives. The first is what we all in our age group experienced when we grew up, we just liked the songs and were taken away with their great music. Second, now after studying Jazz for decades, composing original music and arranging many different types of music, I was again amazed by their talents and compositions. The songs seem to be very simple, and you just sing a long, but when you analyze the structures and harmonies, you realize how deep the musicality was. The musical transformation they went through in 7 - 8 years is just amazing. Many other rock bands still sound the same for 40 years. When I arrange a Beatles song, I just arrange it in a way that pleases me, I don't care what style of music it ends up to be. I am integrating all my musical experiences in my arrangements from my beginning as a Blue/Rock player, my interest in Fusion and Funk and then of course my decades of studying and performing Jazz and Brazilian music.”

Duo Quartet

Duo Quartet

OCA is pleased to present Duo Quartet!

This afternoon concert will take place inside our auditorium.

Duo Quartet is Chris Webster, Nina Gerber, Pam Delgado & Jeri Jones, who discovered their magical, musical synergy during a double-bill show of the two "duos".

From an audience point of view there is something richly satisfying in experiencing these four women onstage with a dynamic ranging from tender, ethereal songs to raucous barn-burners. Webster and Delgado sing most of the leads – Chris often expertly playing a washboard while Delgado drives the band with her percussion. But if this were a boxing ring you’d see coming in from opposite corners the dueling energy of Jones and Gerber egging each other on with their guitar-Goddestry – whipping the band and the audience into a veritable frenzy.

With a beautiful set of original music mixed with surprisingly original takes on a few choice covers, Duo Quartet brings to the stage a band that is greater than the sum of its already impressive parts.

Tickets are $35 Advance, $40 at the door (if available). No online fees for this event. $10 off for OCA members.

About the performers:

Nina Gerber & Chris Webster

Nina Gerber & Chris Webster haven’t rushed into this album thing—it’s only after 25 years of playing together that they’ve released an album of gorgeous duets, Apple Blossom Lane, featuring Chris’s bluesy, jazzy, soulful voice and Nina’s incomparable guitar accompaniment, always surprising, yet always so exactly right. They take their time with each song, playing with possibilities, exploring depths, arriving at moments of rare beauty and transcendence. If you’ve ever heard Nina before, you know she always brings out the best in the musicians around her, and Chris’s best is spectacularly good—her “magic derives from those ineffable qualities of vocal grain, emotional nuance, timing, and phrasing possessed by the truly great and moving singers of any style,” says the Oakland Tribune.

Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones

Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones of Blame Sally fame return to their original duo format, the Pam & Jeri Show, in a performance ranging from mournful ballads to sweet love songs to blazing acoustic soul. Pam plays percussion and guitar, Jeri plays guitar, bass, dobro, and mandolin, and their powerful voices blend beautifully to create a distinct and compelling sound. Their music has earned a spot in the rotation on San Francisco’s KFOG and Starbucks XM Café. Whether they’re covering songs by artists like Aretha Franklin and Rickie Lee Jones or playing their own exciting originals, this is a duo that knows how to entertain an audience and put on a satisfying show.

Rest & Renew: Monthly Sound Bath

Rest & Renew: Monthly Sound Bath

Support your nervous system, release anxiety and stress, and harmonize your body, mind and spirit on the 2nd Tuesday of every month! Laura Benson has a Masters in Intuition Medicine(R) and is a certified sound healer who will guide you through a gentle meditation before each sound bath session. Bring your own yoga mat & blanket and come ready to rest and renew! In the OCA Studio.

Sliding scale pricing $25-$35.

A sound bath is a whole-body, immersive listening experience. During a sound bath, participants often sit or lie down, and are surrounded by the mostly non-melodic soundscapes created by a range of instruments played by the sound bath facilitator. Hence, they are “bathed” in sound.

Sound therapy is a non-invasive healing modality that utilizes the physical and physiological interactions of sound on our bodies and nervous systems to produce therapeutic results. In a sound healing session, specific sonic frequencies are used to soothe the central nervous system, calm the breath, and quiet the mind by encouraging the brain to move into more relaxed states, down from beta (fight-or-flight) and into theta and alpha waves. This increases present-moment awareness and reduces stress and anxiety. Sound baths have been found to be effective in improving mood, cognitive function, and overall mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.

Crystal bowl sound baths are particularly powerful in that each bowl is tuned to a specific frequency that corresponds with a different chakra, or energy center, of the body. Based on specific needs, a practitioner can focus on releasing tension or clearing out stuck energy in specific chakras by playing certain bowls or intervals.

While attending a sound bath, you may experience physical sensations brought out by the crystal sound bowls or gong, such as tingling in your limbs or scalp, slowing of your breathing, eye flutters, or small muscle spasms. Not to worry! These sensations often indicate the release of tension or emotional energy stored in the body’s energy systems.

Barbara Higbie & Friends Winter Solstice Concert

Mega-talented musician and entertainer Barbara Higbie returns with a stellar ensemble of performers for the annual Winter Solstice concert! Prepare to be impressed, uplifted and energized for the winter season by this impressive group. Joined by Michaelle Goerlitz, Vicki Randle, Lena Anderson, Jasper Manning, Kofy Brown and Mia Pixley, Barbara leads us through a variety of glorious genres and melodic masterpieces that will lift your spirits and touch your soul.

Tickets are $32 GA, $27 for OCA members if purchased in advance. $5 additional at the door (if available). Don’t miss this season finale spectacular at OCA!

Barbara Higbie’s family moved to Ghana, West Africa when she was thirteen years of age. It was there she first fell in love with music and studied with master drummer Mustafa Tetty Addy. Later in life, after musical studies at Mills College, studies at the Sorbonne and a sojourn performing in Paris, she returned to West Africa with a Watson Fellowship to collect traditional music. A professional musician since age 17, Barbara has played everything from Traditional Jazz, Bluegrass and Irish to New Classical Music, Blues and African Pop. She is known for her ability to compose in a style that is both genre bending and accessible.

A Grammy-nominated, Bammy award winning composer, pianist, fiddler, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Barbara Higbie has performed on more than 100 albums, including Carlos Santana’s 2007 release. Her latest solo release, 2014’s “Scenes from Life” was recorded for at Lucas Film’s Skywalker Sound.

As a solo artist, Barbara’s first solo CD “Signs of Life” was named a Washington Post “Top Ten of the Year”. Four other solo releases, “I Surrender”, “Variations on a Happy Ending” and ‘Alive in Berkeley” and last year’s “Scenes from Life” followed to much critical acclaim.

In 2011, Higbie was the first ever “Artist in Residence” at the prestigious west coast Jazz Club, “Yoshi’s”, where she created two new bands. Roots music’s, “Hills to Hollers” with icons Linda Tillery and Laurie Lewis, and the exotic “Cello Heaven” with cellists Joan Jeanreneau of Kronos Quartet fame and new age star, Jami Sieber.

In 2014, at R. Kassman Fine Pianos in Berkeley, she was the sponsor and promoter of a piano series featuring Bay Area music icons Tammy Lynne Hawkins-Hall, Mary Watkins, Katrina Krimsky, Adrienne Torf, Frank Martin, and Zofo. She also hosted singer-songwriter, Deidre McCalla at the same venue.

Higbie has 13 solo and group recordings to her name, as well as contributions to 10 compilations that have sold in the millions. She was the first female instrumentalist to compose and record for Windham Hill Records, 1982’s Tideline, a duet project with violinist, Darol Anger. Tideline’s unique sound became an instant classic, thanks in part to Higbie’s innovative and moving compositions. One of her pieces from Tideline, ”True Story”, was downloaded on Pandora in 2014 more than 850,000 times. In June or 2015,  Tideline was re-issued on Adventure Records.

1984 was an important year,  when Higbie recorded, with Anger, Mike Marshall and Andy Narrell, “Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival” for Windham Hill Records, a landmark genre defining album. Her composition “To Be” became Montreux’s radio/VH-1 hit. She toured world-wide with Montreux until 1990.

In addition to her instrumental music, Higbie’s singer-songwriter work, 2 CD’s with vocal dynamo, Teresa Trull, on Olivia Records and 2 solo CD’s on Slowbaby Records have won her critical acclaim and a large, devoted nationwide following.

Higbie has performed with Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, Terry Riley, the Kronos Quartet, Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Will Ackerman, Cris Williamson, Bobby McFerrin, Milton Nascimento, Spyro Gyra, Michael Hedges, Greg Brown, Ferron, Vinnie Colaiuta, Teresa Trull, Vicki Randle, Amy Ray, Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, Rosalee Sorrels, Terry Garthwaite, Laurie Lewis, Liz Story, Benny Rietveld and Alex De Grassi  among others.

West County Fiddle Tune Workshop

West County Fiddle Workshop
(every 3rd Tuesday from 7-9 PM)

  • In this 2-hour workshop, we'll dive into a new fiddle tune every month. American traditional fiddle music is vast, with deep Celtic roots and a fascinating multi-cultural history that gave birth to old-time music, and later to bluegrass. Each month, we'll work on a new tune from one of these three genres. After learning the basic melody, we'll explore the nuances that make each tune & style come alive.

    • All stringed instruments and levels are welcome, but students should be comfortable enough on their instruments that they can learn bite-sized phrases of a melody by ear.

  • David Pascoe is a singer and multi-instrumentalist based in Occidental, CA. In addition to being a passionate music educator and the co-founder of Every Folk (a 3-day camp for adults to explore traditional music and culture), he performs with multiple groups up and down the West Coast on fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. He lives for the moment when music comes alive in the people around him.

Workshop fee is $25, $20 for OCA members.

The Quitters
Nov
3

The Quitters

The Quitters is a guitar-and-vocals duo: a right-handed, right-side-up finger picker — Stevie Coyle — and a left-handed, upside-down flat picker — Glenn “Houston” Pomianek. These gents were two of the original members of The Waybacks quintet, and Glenn was the long-time lead guitarist for Americana powerhouse Houston Jones.

Don't miss this opportunity to see some incredible musicians in West County!

Tickets are $27, $22 for OCA members. $5 additional at the door. Refreshments available, reserved seating for OCA members only. Art gallery open during intermisson.

Glenn Houston's guitarist influences range from Michael Bloomfield to Doc Watson, as shows in his mastery of both the acoustic and electric guitar. Glenn has been voted Best Guitarist by the Northern California Bluegrass Society and has shared billing with Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard, Earl Scruggs, Doc and Merle Watson, Willie Nelson and countless other famous artists. He co-founded the Waybacks in 1999 with Stevie Coyle and Chojo Jacques, and was co-founder of the powerhouse Americana band, Houston Jones.

Stevie Coyle was inspired to take up finger-picking guitar by the first Hot Tuna album. After securing degrees in Theatre and Theology, he hit the road with The Royal Lichtenstein Circus, doing comedy, magic, wire-walking, sword-swallowing, juggling and cat-herding … literally. He has acted in theater, film, TV and voiceover, and has done standup comedy and has toured nationally and internationally, both solo and with The Waybacks. He now owns and runs his own high-end acoustic guitar shop, Mighty Fine Guitars, in Lafayette, CA. .

To quote the Strawberry Music Festival:
Stevie Coyle and Glenn Houston make up the dynamic guitar duo, The Quitters. Having each quit some of the best bands in the business, both are late founding members of The Waybacks and each have performed at Strawberry in other configurations. Stevie Coyle has a long and illustrious career as an entertainer that began well before birth, and Glenn Houston's well decorated history in music is best known to Berryheads for his founding role of powerhouse Americana quintet Houston Jones. As individuals, both are renowned players in music circles. Now they have joined forces, to the delight of California audiences, to become a right-handed, right-side-up fingerpicking and left-handed upside-down flatpicking twosome.

The Naming of Uranus

The Naming of Uranus

The Suffragists of London are putting on a play!

The women, campaigning for the right to vote, have decided to do something truly special for their rally -- the are putting on a musical to highlight a truly atrocious decision. A decision which might never have occurred, had WOMEN had a chance to VOTE on it! They have chosen the tale of the inept scientists who, nearly a century before, discovered and named the planet between Saturn and Neptune. And a musical ensues! The suffragists hope you will join their cause in the interest of fairness... and better decision making!

This is a preview performance at the OCA before a season at the Dickens Christmas Fair. and the cast hopes that audience members will stay and give feedback after the performance.

$5 -$10 donation to attend, sliding scale. Pay online or at the door. OCA is a 501(c)3 Nonprofit organization. Doors open at 3:30 PM. Refreshments available.

The Naming of Uranus is musical comedy, with 11 short numbers in about 38 minutes, in the direction of Gilbert and Sullivan, but with a social justice theme. It is a play within a play. The short framing story is about the Suffragists (AKA Suffragettes) who, as part of their campaign to get women the vote, are putting on a historical pageant to make fun of a very bad decision that would NEVER had been made if women had had anything to say about it. In the opening number, the Suffragists change from their women's clothing into men's outfits so they can stage the performance. The inner (main) story is about a young scientist's wife who tries to warn the Royal Society about their poor choice for a planet name. Written by Mark Sellin. Directed by Margit Schmitt and Mark Sellin.

Dr. Barrowight, a young scientist, is being admitted to the Royal Society on the same day that William Herschel is announcing his discovery of a new planet. The Society is so delighted that their rivalry with the Germans is going well, that they are giving a special session where even wives are invited. Mrs. Barrowight, the young scientist’s wife, tries to warn the Society about the proposed name, Uranus, but she is rebuffed by sexist barriers.

It is only when the head of the society mispronounces the new planet name himself that he realizes the mistake. He, the Barrowights, and others set off on a chase, trying to intercept the official announcement to the King. Little do they suspect that one of the other scientists is a German spy.

Jonathan “Juanito” Pascual is an internationally recognized guitarist and “flamenco phenom” (The Boston Globe). His sound is a truly organic blend of masterful traditional and contemporary flamenco with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach. Juanito brings together global audiences through his mesmerizing virtuosity, original composition style, dedication to music as a global communicator, and passion for collaboration. Energized by the desire to share the beauty and soul-stirring power of flamenco, with its ancient roots, yet vibrant and evolving tradition, Juanito’s performances, recordings, and workshops reverberate with infectious charisma. Recent highlights include a performance at TEDx Nashville, an international tour and appearance in a documentary film with Flamenco icon Jorge Pardo, and performances for film scores in his new home of Los Angeles. Receiving praise for the Juanito Pascual New Flamenco Trio album (2014), All About Jazz noted “Pascual manages to uphold and extend the traditions of flamenco music, creating something distinctive in the process,” a sentiment cherished by Pascual, a dedicated 21st-century musician.

Multi-talented flamenco performer José Moreno is the son of Spanish flamenco dancer Etrella Moreno and singer Pepe de Málaga. José began as a dancer under his mothers tutelage while still a toddler and has gone on to perform with many of top flamenco artists and companies from Spain and the U.S. Highly sought after as well as a  percussionist and flamenco vocalist, José brings a lifetime of experience, mastery and vibrancy to every facet of his art. He has collaborated on a vast array of projects from traditional flamenco, to jazz and world music flamenco fusions and with the Metropolitan Opera's production of "Carmen." He was one of the featured subjects in the Spanish television series "Los Descendientes de Andalucía" in 2015 and performs regularly throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Fanny Ara is an internationally-sought after and award-winning choreographer, performer and instructor. Her most dedicated worldwide fans especially credit her as one of the driving forces of flamenco today; an artist excelling in the full spectrum of flamenco, from the most traditional to the avant-garde. Fanny has been an invited artist in national and international festivals and has toured extensively in Canada, Central and South America, the Middle East, Africa, and throughout Europe. She has been distinguished since 2006 with nominations from the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards in the categories of Most Outstanding Individual Dancer, Most Outstanding Music, Ensemble, and Individual Performance for her project, Juncal Street, and Best Ensemble for her work with the San Francisco Opera in La Traviata. New York’s Vilcek Foundation also awarded Fanny a prestigious finalist prize for “Creative Promise in Dance” in 2012. Fanny’s versatility in the art form of flamenco is manifested in her many artistic works. As Philip Gardner said of her performance at the Joyce Theater in New York City “My newest love is Fanny Ara...the captivating expressive qualities of Fanny’s upper body mesmerized us while her footwork.” dazzled both the eye and the ear...she soared into the upper most echelon of dance artists I have witnessed over the years.”

Her latest productions (2019 with 'Tattooed' and 2024 with 'Lilith') as an artistic director, choreographer and dancer were reviewed as a triumph of artistry and self- actualization where the ovation was immediate, standing, vociferous, prolonged”.
