Songwriting Circle

Six Thursdays April 21 - May 26, 2022

2-4 PM in the OCA Auditorium

Bring your songs and instrument to OCA to meet other songwriters, get feedback, acquire new information, and have fun making original music. We will take turns singing our songs and give each other supportive feedback. No particular experience or skill level is required, just an interest in writing songs. We’ll topics such as: Simple music theory * Song forms * Poetics for lyricists * Finding a catchy “hook” * Chord progression choices * Melodic options * Composing on piano, guitar, or with voice alone * Co-writing * Planning for “singability” * Performance tips and practice. Circle Host Patrick Fanning is a Sonoma County amateur singer songwriter who has been writing songs for 20 years. He will share tips and insights learned from studies with John Smith, Steve Seskin, Jai Josephs, Steve Gillete and others.

To register: email Patrick: fanning@sonic.net to let him know you’re coming, and just show up for the first session on April 21st. Tuition is due at the end of the first class, if you want to continue. Drop-ins can be arranged.

Individual Sessions are $25 per session; $20 for OCA members

$125 for all six, $100 for OCA members
