About the author:
Chris Riebli is from a fifth-generation Sonoma County family. A former truck driver and community college English instructor, Riebli, now retired, lives in Graton with his cat, Perrin. Chris is an active leader at Occidental Center for the Arts as a Board Member and Chair of the Facility Committee.
About the book:
Set in the North Bay region of California in the late 19th and early decades of the 20th century. The Egg Man is the story of Arnold Bert Miller – poacher, teamster, drinker, dreamer - an Everyman of his day, “nose to nose with the hard truths about himself.” This novel is a prequel to The Body’s Perfect, (2012) and traces two earlier generations of the Miller family.
Praise for The Egg Man
“The Egg Man overall is an extraordinary work. It’s always interesting, the characters are very fully drawn, and it’s especially good in evoking the time and place—reminds me of Kesey’s, Sometimes a Great Notion, in that respect. Miller’s story continually draws us forward, whether it’s the danger of Percy or the friendship with Tino or Bert’s love life, there’s always something that makes us read on. For me, it also evokes a vivid imagining of my own father’s inner life—imagined, since I only met him a couple of times beginning when I was 29. The loneliness, the guilt, the resistance to being pinned down, and, of course, the alcohol—I’ve tried to capture that in a couple of characters, but Riebli captures it structurally.”
