OCA member, author and longtime book launch volunteer, Barbara L. Baer received her BA and MA at Stanford University before traveling to live and teach in South India and the former Soviet Union. Barbara wrote about dance and social issues for publications including The Nation, The Progressive and Commonweal, and won a national journalism first prize award. In the mid-1990’s, she co-created Floreant Press which published two anthologies of local women’s writing as well as a ‘best seller’ about pomegranates. Four novels growing out of her experiences, Grisha the Scrivener, The Ballet Lover, The Last Devadasi and The Ice Palace Waltz preceded Masha and Alejandro Crossing Border, a leap into the unknown—her most audacious book. Barbara lives in Forestville with her husband, Michael Morey, a writer.
